World Read Aloud Day

I think everyday should be WRAD. It's one of my favorite things to do with my kids. I love to watch their faces, hear their reactions, and listen to their thinking as I read aloud. So much good comes from reading aloud. We are currently reading, Because of Winn Dixie by Kate diCamillo. To kick off WRAD we watched this video of Kate diCamillo sharing some of her favorite read aloud memories and explaining the importance of reading aloud.

 Kate DiCamillo On Reading Aloud

What I remember most about elementary school is Mrs. Warlick, my 3rd grade teacher, reading aloud to us every day. It was such a special time for me as a learner. I want to provide that same experience for my students!

  1. They love for us to read aloud, too! I love to watch them get hooked into the book! It is my favorite!

  2. Kate is the best! Read aloud is so important and I find myself reluctantly cutting it from my day. I have a post idea about this same thing.

  3. I agree that the read aloud is the best. It makes texts attainable by all our students! Thanks for being WRAD!

  4. On those tough days in the classroom when you feel like you can't handle one more problem, the read-aloud becomes a life saving device. Those rare moments when you have the students' rapt attention are a gift. I too have vivid, fond memories of my elementary teachers reading aloud to my class. Your students are lucky to have you Brittany!

  5. I so agree! Especially in a class of nearly all ELL the chance to hear a book read fluently is hugely important. Add to that the community building of going on journeys together and how can it be beat?
